In our culture alcohol consumption has often been synonymous with being socially accepted. Somehow we have linked the ingestion of these liquids, which everyone knows contains toxic substances, to our desire to be socially connected. It has always been the baby boomers version of Facebook and Twitter. In fact, decades ago while serving as a young Army officer, it would have been considered an insult not to share a few “cold ones” with the men as a form of celebration. I’m not saying the Generation X and Y’ers are immune to becoming alcoholics. It seems to be a problem that transcends generations. Yet, when we allow occasional or moderate use to become a compulsion, then we have transitioned from participating in a social activity to developing and maintaining an addiction, which can easily ruin relationships, end careers, and even end in death.
When do the effects of drinking...

Just about everyone knows that speaking in public is the most common fear in the Western world. Even famous stage performers admit that performing or speaking before a large audience puts them into a panic. In fact, you would not believe the names of the popular musicians, politicians, and even top self-help figures that have admitted that they are absolutely petrified before stepping on stage. Yet, they always give a brilliant performance.
What if the speaking jitters never had to occur? What if your timid feelings never had to happen? What if you could train yourself to love speaking to large crowds? In fact, the bigger the better. Yes, this is possible.
Ever since well before I graduated from high school I found myself giving classes, lectures, or conducting information briefings. This includes classes as small as one person and audiences as big as several...

Intra-office conflicts often happen because of the way different people or groups operate mentally. Simplistically, I look at how a person’s typical use of their brain affects the way that they approach problems. This can easily be divided into feelings (i.e. limbic) and thinking (i.e. cognitive). Thus a person who takes a rather emotional approach will frequently be in conflicts with those who are thinkers. Likewise, if a thinking person attempts to reason with a feeling one, they will not connect. Of course, this does not mean that two limbic-oriented people will not have a difficulty resolving conflicts. If they are too different in their feelings, this is attack/fight-flight mode will always cause problems. On the other hand, two thinkers can generally reason or argue their way out of a problem.
Emotional approaches almost never result in any resolution. Generally, when one of...

Check out what's happening in the NewQuestCity Forums for Florida .
Chain restaurants.
While some loathe their existence, others boast about them, using their presence in Jacksonville as a measuring stick to compare our city against others.
That was the case in 2000, when the Times-Union asked its readers which restaurants and retail stores they would like to see in Jacksonville. The reader query followed newspaper reports of two proposed Southside retail developments, Freedom Commerce Center and Deerwood Town Center, as well as the previously announced Main Street Florida shopping center in North Jacksonville.

It ignited some: “I got one thing to say. Fire Gene Smith.”
It made sense to others: “Do I think he is a long-term answer? I don’t.”
It left others scratching their heads: “How do you not make that trade?”
The issue at hand was whether the Jacksonville Jaguars should trade for Tim Tebow, the former University of Florida star and Heisman Trophy winner from Jacksonville.
Tebow went on the trading block this week when his current team, the Denver Broncos, acquired four-time NFL MVP Peyton Manning.

B- Some Blogging Guy went to Tampa today and, of course, he has some commentary on the whole process.
Tampa airport is a nice, attractive airport. Not as pretty and neat as Orlando. But coming from Fort Lauderdale International, Tehran International would look good. What’s with FLL anyway? The carpets are dark, the lighting low, and they have sounds of bugs and ducks on one of the walkways. It is just plain unattractive. C- Shorter Searching for Signs... E- Worst Pizza got some toppings they didn't ask for on their slice of pizza at Junior's Pizza in Boynton Beach so the experience was rated as average. The slice was crispy which was nice, and had a decent enough texture to the crust. They applied the sauce lightly, which was a plus since that was my least favorite part of the slice. The cheese taste fresh and was a decent quality. All together it made for a good slice, but certainly not something I would qualify as the best. H- Political Cortadito looks at the Doral's upcoming elections. The sleepy little suburban bliss that is Doral is about to get a muddy political makeover. Even in this year’s cornucopia of campaigns, the Doral city elections are worth watching. Not just because every seat on the council save one is up for grabs (more on that later). Not because the candidates are that engaging themselves.
But because of the likely outside interest (more on that later) and veteran campaign political operatives involved in the three-way mayoral race. I- South Florida Food and Wine explains how to survive St. Patrick's Day. . |
