Unless you are one of very few lucky people, most likely the only way that you will ever be successful is to commit to taking the massive action required to achieve a goal. Star athletes, successful business people, and even those who have found the love of their lives realize that without commitment, nothing will ever be achieved. So, if this is such as well-established fact, why isn’t everyone a total success.
The answer to that question is that for too many people several of the areas of their brain, which should normally help them become masters of their universe, have enabled them to fear commitment. That area helps us anticipate future possibilities and in our mind simulate the occurrence of a potential adverse situation. This means that we think about what could go wrong and we play it out as if it actually were happening. We train our minds and bodies to become quite good at...

Let’s face it. For each and every one of us there is something or someone who inspires in us a level of anxiety and dread, which can reasonably be referred to as fear. For some it can be the thought of a snake, spider, dogs, or even wide open spaces. Others constantly live in utter misery as they tend to avoid many of the sights, sounds, and occurrences of modern-day life. What causes this and do we have a choice?
As humans we have a superior ability to anticipate and simulate. When we anxiously await the arrival of a person who we love or are overly concerned about the possibility of an adverse situation occurring, our brain goes through an anticipation and simulation process. In fact, there is a specific part of the brain, which handles these natural functions. Interestingly enough, it is the same one that makes it possible for us to have imagination and which allows us to...

Excessive worry and anxieties are so common in Western society that I sincerely doubt that there are many people who are not adversely affected by them. Do you constantly feel stressed? Do you have problems sleeping? Is your mind always hyperactive and jumping from worry to worry? Yes, you problem are handling your stress and anxieties very well.
Remember that your reactions are most likely part of what psychologists call learned behavior. This means that at some time you reacted – or over-reacted – to a situation. When you perceived it happening again, this recognition literally triggered the past response in your mind and body. Then each time that the reaction is triggered it becomes stronger and stronger. Therefore, to resolve a learned anxiety reaction it is necessary to reprogram that trigger so that an alternate reaction takes place.
I know that this...

Understanding that people with radical ideologies, liberal or conservative, don’t comprise a too significant portion of the constituency, Obama and Romney will need to target and appeal to a wide range of moderates and persons undecided if they wish to be elected to office.
This challenge will prove far more difficult than appealing to either extremes [...]

The culture of the American consciousness can at times be very vexing. Perhaps the most angering aspect of all is our concept of equality and justice. Since the first settlers came to this continent in the 15th century, inequality, discrimination and racism have been an integral part of our recipe for success.
Within the last month we [...]
