Over the past several years too many people have had to cope with the stress of financial difficulties. Very rarely have these situations been the consequence of poor decisions on the part of the affected individuals. Yet, it is so difficult for someone undergoing such stresses and strains to convince themselves that they are not at fault.
In our society many have always placed an emphasis on finding oneself. Generally, this meant realizing a sense of self-identity. In other words, we want to find out who we are. Often this leads us to seek answers from religious or other spiritual teachers, our nationality, our occupation or profession, our loyalty toward our favorite sports team or our academic alma mater, and even by identifying with our possessions. If you are the point of your life when you finally admit that you are an alcoholic, you are ready to begin the journey toward recovery. This addiction is nothing new. This means that every fear and concern that they have about themselves tends to come to mind immediately. This is too much for them to handle. So they suddenly have the desire to crawl into their shell and avoid people – or at least crowds.
What I’ve noticed is that these people – who psychologists normally diagnose as having what is called Social Affect Disorder – are powerful empaths, who have not yet learned to appreciate or control their remarkable genius. As empaths they have a rather uncanny ability to sense the emotions of others. The truth is that most people are not...
