A Quick Tip for Handling Presentation Jitters

One of the biggest obstacles to becoming a master presenter is those butterflies that seem to be fluttering around in your stomach before you start to speak. Although you are an expert in your subject, your fears create a fight/flight reaction. Your hands become cold, your vital organs stop functioning properly, and a majority of your brain’s blood flow shifts to the ancient reactive defensive areas that reside just above your brain stem. Your mind and body begin shutting down. You are not your best. However, you can speak to small and large audiences in total comfort and excitement if you only understand what is really going on.

In the 1990’s a group of Italian neuroscientists discovered what they call mirror neurons. These brain cells, which are scattered throughout your brain, react when you observe the behaviors of others. This also happens when you sense the intentions...

Enjoy dogs with out fear

I could hardly think of what life would be like without the company of man’s best friend. The bond that comes from the deep understanding between a person and their dog (or dogs) is a unique relationship. Yet, to many people even the thought of being around one makes them very uncomfortable and may even evoke feelings of horror.

A fear of dogs may have been installed during your youth. It could have started due to a warning from a loved one or may even be due to an incident where you were attacked or felt threatened. Like any fear or phobia, this fear is a learned behavior that becomes hard-wired in your mind and body. It most likely started at a time when your immature brain could not rationalize a triggering event. Therefore, the only tools that your brain had available installed a fear/flight reaction. Additional incidents or even a recurring worry about dogs serves to...

Hypnotherapy Proven to Provide Long-Term Symptom Reduction for Fibromyalgia Sufferers

Anniston, Alabama. (October 21, 2010) - The International Hypnosis Research Institute announced its approval of a nine-week hypnotherapy program specifically designed to achieve symptom reduction for the over 5 million women in the United States who suffer from the incurable Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS). The program was authored and produced by Tim Brunson, PhD, the Institute’s Executive Director and founder. He is a leading authority on complementary health care issues.

“Despite hypnotherapy’s documented effectiveness for alleviating acute and chronic pain, when addressing FMS it is vital that numerous behavioral, social, and medical factors also be considered,” said Dr. Brunson. “I have found that a wide-range of issues, such as self-empowerment, trust, confidence, and a belief in the mind/body relationship, must be included in a series of effective hypnotic suggestions...

05/14/2012

Shake, rattle and RUN! Earthquakes, volcanoes, hurricanes and tornadoes descend on the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) this spring and summer with Nature Unleashed: Inside Natural Disasters. The new exhibition explores these spectacular phenomena through interactive displays, state-of-the-art animations, poignant, large-scale images, and cultural artifacts. “Museum visitors are in for a memorable and powerful experience,” said OMSI President Nancy Stueber. “Everyone identifies with and is affected by the intense natural forces of our world. OMSI provides information about the dynamic processes behind these events. ” Guests will be able to witness what it’s like to stand inside a roaring tornado; trigger an underwater earthquake and simulate a tsunami; create a virtual volcano; touch and examine real rock and lava specimens that tell of past geologic events; discover how people adapt to living at risk; and be inspired by the resiliency of disaster survivors. Blind Cafe Returns To Portland, OR!
04/03/2012

The Blind Café returns to Portland in April to put a new spin on darkness and the way in which people experience the world around them. It’s an evening spent in complete darkness with music, food and conversation that is guaranteed to capture the imagination and more: this is an event designed to have lasting “eye opening” impacts for guests. The program’s founder Brian (Rosh) Rocheleau is the first to admit that he feels “really blessed to share The Blind Café. It’s this amazing experience, where we create a space and help people explore their boundaries and perceptions. What comes out is unique for each guest, but it’s often powerful stuff!” This April 26th and 27th, The Blind Café will be evolving, too. This time the café is incorporating a taster experience instead of a more traditional “dinner” plate. The result: a more playful dining experience with all kinds of foods and flavors so guests can really explore their pallet! The Café helps guests to explore their senses and discover how profound even the simplest of acts can be. This is NOT just a meal in the dark... it's so much more. Along with tasters, our guests will also indulge their ears with a full set of live music by Rosh & One Eye Glass Broken. It’s a chance to truly experienced music without the distraction of visual conditioning, social etiquette or cell phones! Plus, all the servers at the event are blind and the keynote speaker Rick Hammond will lead a Q&A and discussion on life with blindness. (Rick is a blind spoken word artist who grew up in Portland, Oregon and now lives in Denver, CO.) It’s a night no one forgets… or SEES! Event Details: The Portland Blind Café Where: Saint David of Whales @ 2800 SE Harrison Street Portland, OR 97214 When: April 26th & 27th (Thursday & Friday), 7:30 PM Check In / 7:45PM Seating Website: www.theblindcafe.com/portland-blind-cafe.htm.
