The Reliable Choice Tom Grizzard, Inc. was formed as a real estate brokerage business in 1968, as a complement to my father's development business. My entry into the brokerage business generally involved the sale of citrus groves, mobile home parks and other income producing properties in the Central Florida area. I built my first office on Griffin Road in 1970, almost in the parking lot of the Holiday Inn, and began recruiting agents to help customers who would walk in from the motel looking for residential properties. It soon became apparent that the new agents needed professional training and direction, so we became the first franchised real estate broker in Lake County, Florida when we joined ERA in 1976. In making the decision to join ERA, I made the conscious decision to become more than a small two or three agent office, but rather to build a strong, dedicated team of real estate professionals, and fully implement all the products and services that ERA provides. In 1977, Tom Grizzard, Inc. built a second office across the street to house this ever growing team. In 1990, because of the desire to accommodate all the needs of the real estate buyer or seller in one place, the idea of The Real Estate Centre emerged and a concentrated effort was made to create a true "one stop real estate shop." Leesburg was first settled in 1857 by Evander McIver Lee. Several of Evander Lee's brothers followed him to the area. One of these brothers, Calvin Lee, was credited with giving the town its name. The city of Leesburg was first incorporated in 1875, and was the county seat of Sumter County for a time until Lake County was formed in 1887. In the early 20th century, Leesburg was an important center for watermelon production. In 1930, Leesburg held its first Watermelon Festival, an annual tradition that would last until watermelon production in the area dwindled to the point that watermelons for the last festival had to be brought in from outside the area. -- Source: Wikipedia.com
