The racial makeup of the town was 94.35% White, 3.35% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.66% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 0.91% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.11% of the population. There were 3,327 households out of which 30.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.1% were married couples living together, 14.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.5% were non-families. 30.2% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
