The Town of Huntington is located in northwestern Suffolk County, New York on the North Shore of Long Island. Huntington is part of the New York metropolitan area. As of the United States 2000 Census, the town population was 195,289. The town was first settled in 1653. In 1872, part of the town was removed to form the Town of Babylon. Huntington was named an All-America City in 2002 by the National Civic League. It was also a finalist in 2001. Huntington adopted the Declaration of Rights in June of 1774 -- two years before the general Declaration of Independence by the colonies.
