What happens when someone is experiencing an anxiety? Normally, we associate such an occurrence with distinct reactions in the body. Some people feel like their anxiety must be a heart attack. They find that their pulse increases. They feel a tightness in their chest. Their hands and feet may suddenly go numb. Yes, it may just feel like a heart attack is occurring. Even though it is not, still they are experiencing a miserable situation.
Anxieties normally happen as the result of a previous traumatic event. Often this event occurred during their childhood years. At that point the ability of their brain to cope and rationalize had not yet emerged. Therefore, the only mental tools at their disposal involved the part of their brain that is normally associated with short-term memory and the area that is involved with triggering fear. Bullying is a condition or situation where one or more people are involved with aggression that is so excessive as cause extreme psychological stress for others. Unfortunately, it is a fact of life in international affairs, politics, organizational dynamics, and with individuals. By its ubiquitous nature it should be obvious that it has always played a role in our society. This, however, does not mean that we should not be concerned.
The predominant problem with bullying is its affect on the victims. When it occurs the recipient must cope and adjust behavior. This can either cause long-term feelings of hopelessness and despair with all of the mental and physical ramifications or they may learn to react by displaying overt resistance – such as standing up to the bully.
Of course, a bully rarely picks on someone who is in the former group. They are indeed looking for easy marks....

It is sad to see middle-age and older people who display the cumulative effects of long-term smoking. Many years of cigar, cigarette, or pipe smoking seems to affect every cell and organ in their body. You can see it in their complexions and hear it in their voices. Those that eventually come to see me, tell me that they have always been aware of the long-term consequences. However, they say that they could never successful quit the habit. Unfortunately, while it is never too late to give up smoking, but the time that we meet, the damage to their body is extensive.
On the other hand, not all of the adverse effects of smoking are long-term. In fact, many of them are immediate. The money spent on tobacco products comes out of their pockets almost daily.
