As of the census of 2000, there were 7,089 people, 2,564 households, and 1,976 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 443.6/km² (1,148.1/mi²). There were 2,812 housing units at an average density of 176.0/km² (455.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 90.18% White, 1.61% African American, 0.51% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 5.28% from other races, and 2.00% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 13.01% of the population. There were 2,564 households out of which 37.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% were married couples living together, 11.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 22.9% were non-families. 19.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
