As of the census of 2000, there were 6,442 people, 2,873 households, and 1,643 families residing in the neighborhood. The population density was 1,437.7/km² (3,727.1/mi²). There were 3,057 housing units at an average density of 682.3/km² (1,768.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the neighborhood was 88.70% White, 4.30% Asian, 1.44% African American, 0.70% Native American, 0.16% Pacific Islander, 2.22% from other races, and 2.48% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 4.77% of the population. There were 2,873 households out of which 26.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% were married couples living together, 7.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.8% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
