Native Americans The Tuscarora Indians used the area around Holly Springs as a hunting ground prior to colonial settlement. This tribe fled North Carolina around 1720 to escape the influx of Europeans, and eventually became the sixth nation of the Iroquois. Pre-1800 The Town of Holly Springs grew around fresh water springs, believed to be the original “holly springs,” near the intersection of what is now Avent Ferry Road and Cass Holt Road. These roads linked Raleigh to the Cape Fear River and ultimately to Fayetteville as well as linking Hillsborough to Smithfield. Early 19th Century By 1800, the crossroads had spawned a village, including a general store built by Richard Jones, a Baptist Church, and a Masonic Lodge. These were soon followed by a sawmill and cotton gin. -- Source: Wikipedia.com Get your Free Holly Springs Home Buyer Relocation Packet today. If you’re an “adult”, Charlotte certainly has its fair share of organized sports to join like softball, basketball, flag football, heck…even kickball. But for some reason, it’s lacking anything dodgeball related. You’re probably thinking one of two things…the over the top Ben Stiller movie or your middle school gymnasium. Well, it’s time to bring old [...]

The Charlotte Bobcats are bad. Historically bad. Like so many others, I’ve criticized their direction after bad trades, bad drafts, and worse management. But today, I read this article in Grantland about the scene in Charlotte as the Bobcats attempt to, um, make history. The article’s not necessarily wrong, but it makes the Bobcats a [...]

The best thing about Charlotte Hip-Hop is that it is sooo versatile. This versatility also obstructs Charlotte from placing its rap city tac on the hip-hop map. The hip-hop sound of the Queen City is so dynamic that it has yet to be defined. I quite love this undefined quality of my city’s hip-hop music [...]
