There were 4,146 housing units at an average density of 195.9/km² (507.4/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 80.05% White, 13.48% African American, 0.33% Native American, 0.39% Asian, 4.15% from other races, and 1.60% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 14.96% of the population. There were 3,878 households out of which 29.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 47.4% were married couples living together, 15.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.6% were non-families. 28.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
