Hudsonville is also known as "Michigan's Salad Bowl" because of the crops grown in the muck fields. Celery, onions, carrots, and other vegetables are prominent throughout the many acres of wet, fertile soil that once was an ancient river bottom. Hudsonville is known for Hudsonville Ice Cream(although it is made in Burnips, MI) as well as Creme Curls Co. Hudsonville is also the hometown of ex-NFL player Ray Bentley as well as retired pro baseball player, John VanderWal. The city is dry; that is, the purchase or sale of any alcohol is prohibited. Hudsonville has been this way since 1958 and voters have twice rejected proposals to lift the ban since 2000. The city of Zeeland, just a few miles away, has a similar ordinance. The Hudsonville Eagle Football team went to State in 2005. They finished second in Division 2 Football, losing to Birmingham Brothers Rice in a close football battle. -- Source: Wikipedia.com
