Mount Pleasant is a city in Henry County, Iowa, in the United States. As of the 2000 census, the city population was 8,751. It is the county seat of Henry CountyGR6. Mary Eunice Harlan, the daughter of Iowa senator James Harlan and wife of Abraham Lincoln's son Robert Todd Lincoln, was from Mount Pleasant. James Van Allen, considered America's foremost space scientist, was born in Mount Pleasant and graduated valedictorian of his Mount Pleasant Public High School class. Current Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack lived in Mount Pleasant before being elected Governor, and served as Mayor of the city after the assassination of Ed King during a city council meeting. The city is the home of Iowa Wesleyan College. The P.E.O. Sisterhood was founded in Mount Pleasant by seven Iowa Wesleyan students. Mount Pleasant is also home to the Old Thresher's Reunion, which attracts over 100,000 people over Labor Day Weekend. -- Source: Wikipedia.com
