Alamo is a census-designated place (CDP) in Contra Costa County, California, in the United States. It is located in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. As of the 2000 census, the CDP population was 15,626. The Tri-Valley's unincorporated community of Alamo has nothing to do with the ill-fated 19th century Texas fortress. Instead, it was named by the Spanish in 1850 for the poplar trees that lined San Ramon Creek. As of 2005, the median home price was $1,180,527. There were 5,406 households out of which 40.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 78.1% were married couples living together, 4.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.4% were non-families. 11.5% of all households were made up of individuals and 5.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
