Moving To St. Louis
By: ValueList Posted 03/05/2009 - 04:29 PM
In the past couple of weeks, I've gotten several telephone calls and emails requesting information on housing here in St. Louis. I honestly don't know why the sudden pick up in interest in this subject; maybe it's the fact that spring is getting ready to spring or maybe it's folks relocating in order to find work. Whatever the cause, I thought that I would take a few moments and give a broad outline of what kind of housing is available here in St. Louis. If you'd like additional information regarding the specific areas of town, please drop me a note and I'll tell you what I know! Compared to many big cities, St. Louis is actually a very affordable city to live in. Particularly if you're use to the cost of living on one of the coast. Homes in decent areas can be had for as little as $80,000! Now, you're not going to get a castle for that kind of money, but you can buy a home in a safe area that is in at least halfway decent shape. I recently sold my daughter a home that while it required a bit of work to make it livable, it wasn't that much work and everything included she spent less than $90,000 or so. While her home is very nice now that she's fixed it up, I can see where some folks may be interested in a bit more home or at least one in a nicer subdivision. St. Louis offers a wide variety of homes in the next bracket, say from $100,000 to $200,000. For this kind of money you can secure a lot of different kinds of homes ranging from older homes in the city to new homes in the far suburbs. If you're willing to live a bit further out, you can even find a home with acreage in this price range. In the $300,000 to $450,000 range you can buy A LOT of home here in St. Louis! Homes in this price range can run from historic mansions to large new construction homes. If city living is something that attracts you, you can also buy some very cool lofts downtown that can be breath taking! With interest rates low and the newly announced tax credit for first time home buyers, now may very well be the time to buy! Again, if you have any questions or I can be of service in any manner, please do not hesitate to contact me!
