Insomnia and hypnosis

Insomnia, which is the chronic inability to sleep, can be affected by the use of hypnosis. Normally, the inability to sleep is a result of the failure of the brain to switch functions from those needed during the awake state to those needed for a restful sleep. Through the use of hypnosis a person can shut off the parts of the brain that are not needed for sleep. In order to understand this, it is helpful to look at the brain as an organ with many parts. At any given time these individual parts are either active, inactive, or idle. For any mental function a combination of these parts, which I also call neural substrates, are activated. Therefore, in severe instances a person’s inability to forgive is much like any other obsessive or compulsive behavior. First they anticipate and/or simulate the possibility of a recurrence of the offending situation. Then their brain goes to a problem-solving routine. With most people once the solution is obtained, then problem-solving process ends and they can effectively go about...
