While College Tuition Escalates to New Heights, College Scholarships Go Unclaimed

WEBWIRE – Monday, June 29, 2009

Miami, June 30th 2009— Millions of college students, more than in previous years, will face severe financial problems in pursuing a college education. Not only because of high tuition fees and the severe economic crisis, but students simply don’t apply for scholarship and financial aid or apply too late.

The recession has led some foundations, corporations, state governments and colleges to reduce or outright cancel scholarships. The cuts come as economic conditions make it harder for families to pay for college and as more unemployed people return to college to weather the economic storm.

However, according to Dr, Hilroy Thomas, author of "60 Minute Guide to College Scholarship and Financial Aid", in spite of the doom and gloom more than ten million college students will receive financial aid this year. Millions more students could receive scholarship for college or university only if they knew what to do and how to do it. He estimates that there will be a little less than 145 billion in college scholarship dollars available to study this year.

But Dr. Thomas warned that college students who ignore the billions in scholarships and fellowships dollars will be stuck with huge college debt later or postpone college altogether. To prevent this, every student should locate scholarship sources and apply, he said.

The 60 Minute Guide College Scholarship and Financial Aid is one more resource for college students seeking scholarships. Dr. Thomas received his doctorate from Harvard University, is Assistant Dean at St. Thomas University, Miami and has written several books on access to American colleges and universities.
